Great news for those who like Lord of the Rings it comes, and it comes in the form of a game. Fans can celebrate, as the Athlon Games signed a licensing agreement that will allow the creation of an online game set in Middle-earth.
The news is still new, so very few details have been revealed. But what is known is that the story of the game will take place long before the events of the book, and therefore it will not be based on the stories already told and will not have any kind of relationship. In fact, the narrative will be even before Frodo's journey, and it should introduce new characters and locations.
Information such as which platforms will be chosen, release dates or even the basic business model has not yet been released. And even though Athlon is a free-to-play game publisher, it doesn't mean that this strategy will be chosen for the game's launch.
One of the biggest examples of free-to-play games from Athlon studios is Warframe, although it is also known for Gears of War 4, a game with a more traditional model. That is, from these examples it is clear that the studio has the necessary experiences and skills to create a quality game. It remains to be seen whether the final result will please the most rigid audience: JRR Tolkien fans.
