NVIDIA, Microsoft, Epic Games, Unity together for the new generation of games

NVIDIA has revealed several developments that reinforce NVIDIA Ge Force GPUs as a core platform and allow game developers to add real features to games.

The announcements are based on the central role of Microsoft DirectX Ray Tracing (DXR) in the PC gaming ecosystem. This all includes Real-time ray tracing integration in Unreal Engine and Unity, NVIDIA is adding ray tracing support on GeForce GTX GPUs, introduction of NVIDIA's GameWorks RTX, a comprehensive set of rendering tools and techniques that help game developers to add ray tracing to games, new games and experiences that show real-time ray tracing, such as Dragonhound, Quake II RTX and others.

NVIDIA, Microsoft, Epic Games, Unity together for the new generation of games

It is worth mentioning that the most popular game engines in the world support ray tracing. Game engines are software development platforms that have all the essential functionality developers need to create video games, including authoring and scripting, artificial intelligence, and rendering.

Now, two of the world's most famous commercial game engines, Unreal Engine and Unity, have revealed the integration of ray tracing capabilities, which developers will use to add effects that can run in real-time on NVIDIA GeForce GPUs.

Starting April 4th, Unity will support optimized ray tracing, with a focus on production as well as real-time via an experimental version available on GitHub.

Real-time ray tracing support from other first-party AAA game engines comes with DICE/EA's Frostbite engine, Remedy Entertainment's Northlight engine, and engines from Crystal Dynamics, Kingsoft, Netease, and others.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX GPUs with Pascal and Turing architectures will be able to enjoy games supported by ray tracing through a driver that should arrive in April. The driver will enable millions of gaming GPUs to support real-time ray tracing. With this driver, GeForce GTX GPUs will perform ray tracing effects on shader cores.
