Sony announces limited PS5 pre-orders on its website

Sony recently announced that it will offer a limited number of people the possibility to pre-order a Playstation 5 directly from the company through its website. A limited number of consoles will be made available for pre-sale through an offer, which will extend to "existing consumers" who register on Playstation.com.

Pre-sales on the Playstation Direct store will be on a first-come, first-served basis, where people who have registered on the site will be informed via email (if selected). According to the site's FAQ, the process of selecting people to buy the PS5 will be "based on past interests and activities on the Playstation."

According to Sony, the invitation to participate in the PS5 pre-order does not give a 100% guarantee that the person will have the console. Selected fans will be able to request:

      • 1 PS5 console (with Blu-ray player) or 1 PS5 digital edition
      • 2 controls DualSense
      • 2 DualSense controller charging stations
      • 2 headsets wireless Pulse 3D
      • 2 media remotes
      • 2 HD cameras

Unfortunately the above offer appears to have been limited to the US only. According to Sony, any order that has an address outside the US will be cancelled.

Even with this offer from Sony, a date for the launch of the PS5 has not yet been announced, nor the price that will be charged for the console (or its accessories). However, earlier this month, Carrefour's French website appears to have revealed the price of the Playstation's next-generation video game (for more details, go here).
