Recently, information was published by the Japanese press saying that Sony increased by at least 50% the production of Playstation 5 consoles that it initially planned to manufacture for the launch of its new generation of video games. According to the Asian Nikkei Review website, the company intended to produce approximately 6 million units of PS5 this year, but this number is already at about 9 million. Bloomberg said it would go even further, reaching a total production of 10 million.
On both websites that comment on the increase in production, it is said that this decision was made due to the high demand for home entertainment in the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. If Sony manages to sell the number of consoles mentioned above by the end of 2020, the PS5 will represent a huge increase compared to its predecessor. When it was released in 2013, the Playstation 4 had sold 4,2 million units by the end of the following month.
Facebook ramps up production of Oculus VR headset
Another company that is also increasing its production is Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg's company plans to produce more Oculus VR headsets, according to Nikkei. The company's objective is to drive growth of up to 2 million units in the second half of 2020, thus increasing production by 50% compared to 2019 production.
