Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo unite in commitment to the community

The games industry is driven by rivalry, just like any other industry in the world. However, part of the public sometimes seems to increase this rivalry creating a climate of enmity between developers who actually go hand in hand. Demonstrating that along with this healthy rivalry there is also room for respect and cooperation, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo came together to talk about an important issue.

The companies, which last year already banded together against fees on consoles in the US, published a note announcing several principles adopted with the intention of creating a safe electronic gaming environment for all. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo say they believe that games are made for everyone, of any age, and that the principles are designed to protect those who are younger and more vulnerable, particularly in online multiplayer experiences.

Companies recognize that working together is necessary to overcome challenges and protect players most prone to attack.

The three main pillars of security

Three main pillars were disclosed that serve as a basis for these principles. They are prevention, partnership and responsibility.

Prevention is where companies commit to empowering both players and legal guardians, allowing everyone to be able to understand and control the experiences provided by games. Security tools, simple and constantly reinforced by the brands' channels, will allow this to be possible. The companies also say that they will continue to invest in technologies that punish inappropriate conduct.

For the development of security initiatives, partnerships will be signed, which will seek regulatory bodies, industry members and experts. Another important role in this area will be the community, which can use the player reporting system to draw attention to anyone who is demonstrating inappropriate behavior.

Regarding responsibility, the three giants talk about punishments and restrictions for those who violate the codes of conduct, stating that they will also trigger the law if necessary.
