Heritage Auctions Director of Video Games Valarie McLeckie said in a statement that:

"Demand for this game was extremely high and if any batch from the sale could hit a number like that, this would be it. We knew it was going to be a strong live streaming session, but I don't think anyone could have anticipated how many bids there was on "Heritage Live!" and smartphones."

"This unopened copy of this launch title from [Nintendo] has risen to remember times, in part because it was part of one of the game's small productions packaged in boxes with a cardboard clip underneath the plastic, an indication that it was part of one of the first variants produced after Nintendo started using heat shrink to seal games instead of stickers."
