Xbox will be able to mute the speakers when connecting headphones

Microsoft is testing a new feature for Xbox, where when connecting headphones to the console's controller, the speakers (or TV speakers) are automatically muted. The feature has now been made available to Xbox Insiders program participants in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring and is likely to be made available to the general public soon.

Previously, when the user connected the headset to the Xbox controller, the speakers (or TV speakers) remained on, requiring the player to turn down the speaker volume. For comparison, considering what we currently have, the PS5 is already able to automatically mute the speaker (or TV speaker) when connecting headphones to the controller. It's good to see that Microsoft is looking to bring a similar experience to Xbox users.

What's new with the new update for Xbox Insiders?

In addition to the option to "mute" the speakers when connecting headphones, according to the Microsoft blog, filters for colorblindness are also being implemented.

The Windows developer says:

"While some games implement similar filters individually, this new feature applies globally to everything on the Xbox Series X/S, including all games, movies, apps, menus, etc. It also supports various forms of color blindness and filters can be adjusted to your preference without affecting performance, screenshots or game clips."
