In case you have never heard of the AirPower charging mat, it is a product developed by Apple that was announced in 2017 with the iPhone X that allows wireless charging of AirPods, Apple Watch and iPhones at the same time. After some time, Apple ended up canceling the project due to complications with the charger coils. After this cancellation, a reliable leaker (JonProsse) said that AirPower would be coming back to be developed again, however, yesterday he took back the words he said, saying that Apple canceled once again the loading mat.
According to Jon Prosser, his sources say there is a lot of doubt that one day Apple will put Airpower back in development. This cancellation is believed to be due to the recently announced MagSafe for iPhones and accessories. Apparently, the new technology seems to be a safer alternative, in addition to having already gained accessories with the technology through other manufacturers such as Belkin.
All AirPower prototyping / testing has been removed from the schedule for 2021.
Sources doubt that it'll ever be picked back up again.
Seems like once again, AirPower is dead.
