Apple Considered Launching a Game Streaming Service Like xCloud

Apparently, Apple even discussed launching a game streaming service to compete with Xbox Cloud Gaming (xCloud) and Google Stadia. The information came from Bloomberg, where Mark Gusman says the "apple" has considered launching a cloud-based gaming platform.

Currently, Apple has focused on offering downloadable games that need to be played on a certain device. In 2019, the company even launched "Arcade", a mobile game subscription service that offered titles that did not have an in-game purchase system. While the idea is interesting, it's a much less flexible way to play compared to game streaming services xCloud and Google Stadia.

Apple plans to launch a cloud gaming service (streaming)

According to Mark's latest "Power On", it was said in Bloomberg:

"Apple's gaming service is somewhat unique, being based around games that run on your devices natively rather than in the cloud. Microsoft Corp., Nvidia Corp., Google and others have released gaming services that run in the cloud. This allows support for a wider range of games and creates an experience similar to “Netflix for games.” Oddly, Apple doesn't allow these rivals to join Apple Arcade on the App Store. The company says it's not because they're competitors, but simply because it doesn't allow cloud gaming services at will on its devices. Despite this, the company has in the past internally discussed the prospects of launching such a service, I'm told. I just hope that if Apple does, it will also give green light to the participation of its rivals."

Why Apple Hasn't Made Its Move to Game Streaming Yet

One possible reason why Apple has not yet decided to enter the market for cloud gaming services (streaming) is its preference for using good local hardware rather than relying on the user's internet connection to stream games. In addition, we have the issue of allowing other streaming services on the App Store such as Microsoft, Nvidia, Google, Amazon and Netflix. At the same time, we know that it is possible to access the services through a mobile browser, without the need to download an app.
