Apple convinces Foxconn and TSMC to use only renewable energy to make iPhones

Apple managed to convince more than 15 suppliers, including Foxconn and TSMC, to manufacture Apple products using only clean energy. Apple says it expects to surpass its target of using four gigawatts of renewable energy in its supply chain by 2020 by an additional gigawatt.

Apple in April last year said its facilities ran entirely on renewable energy, in October the company said it had achieved the same goal at its retail locations.

The current announcement says that suppliers have committed to the renewable target. Apple's Vice President of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives Lisa Jackson, in a statement to Reuters, declined to comment on the company shutting down suppliers like Foxconn and TSMC if they failed to honor their commitments.
