Apple didn't even test biometrics directly on the iPhone X screen

The next smartphones should be presented following Apple's trend on the iPhone X, with Face ID with facial recognition. In which the future is in the identification of users' faces and not in the use of fingers on smartphone screens.

Several rumors pointed to three distinct alternatives to be chosen by Apple for the fate of Touch ID, the fingerprint reader that has become since 2013 one of the characteristics of iPhones. Speculation around the subject considered that the sensor would be placed on the back of the smartphone, on the side power button or even built directly into the screen.

However, with the launch of the iPhone X, it can be seen that none of the alternatives was used by Apple. That's because the information was released based on rumors about the possible presentation of Touch ID under the glass screen, as was expected by many iPhone fans. Apple points out that this was never the company's intention, through Apple's head of hardware engineering Dan Riccio:

"I heard some rumors that we couldn't get Touch ID to work under the glass [of the screen], so we had to remove it. When we had an initial vision of making Face ID as good as it is, we knew that the success could be achieved if we were able to enable it in the product [iPhone X] and that if that became a reality it could be something that would make us burn all bridges. That was assuming [Face ID] was a better solution. So We did that. So we didn't waste time looking for fingerprint scanners that worked behind the device or under the glass because if we did those things, which would be a last-minute change, they would become a distraction related to the most important achievement. , which was the production of Face ID in high quality".

So Apple's competitors, after the iPhone X's introduction, stopped trying to find ways to put biometrics directly on the screen, which would never have been Apple's intention.
