Apple: what to expect from the event that takes place on March 23

A lot of speculation has been generated on social media about an alleged Apple online event that, according to rumors, would be held on March 16. That date gained a lot of traction, until Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that Apple would not hold an event on this day. Note that he did not rule out the possibility of the event this March, but ended up canceling the 16th.

However, later another reliable source revealed that the correct date is March 23, and that although the press has not received the invitation yet, this event will take place online, just like last year due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

With the date possibly being confirmed by Apple in the coming weeks, we must ask ourselves what to expect from this event. If that's your question, here are some potential candidates to be announced by the company.

    iPad Pro and iPad mini

It's not just today that there are rumors about the Cupertino company announcing a new iPad Pro with mini-LED screen technology. The expectation is that it will have a size of 12,9 inches and will have virtually the same design as the 2020 model, with changes to this new screen technology and possibly compatibility with the A14 chip for better performance.

In the case of the iPad mini, it is believed to have an 8,4-inch screen and smaller bezels than its predecessors. Apparently, Apple is not expected to develop a new design for this tablet, which consequently keeps the large bezels on the top and bottom, in addition to the home button and Touch ID. It is worth remembering that the last update for this model took place in 2019, when Apple granted compatibility with the A12 chip, the fastest and most efficient at that time.

    iPhone SE 3

Much has also been said about the alleged third-generation iPhone SE, which, according to rumors, will be made official in April. As it is unlikely that Apple will hold an event in March and another in April, the expectation is that it will also be announced on the 23rd.

Little is known about what device, but rumors suggest that Apple is working on a larger version compared to last year's iPhone SE. It is believed to have a 5,5-inch screen and a design similar to the iPhone 8 Plus.

AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2

Apple made its rugged AirPods Max headset official in December, but sources suggest the company is already gearing up for likely updates on the way throughout 2021.

It has been vented on the internet that the supposed AirPods Pro 2 is expected to feature a more compact design that removes the stem that currently sticks out from the bottom of the AirPods Pro. On the other hand, Bloomberg reported that this change should not happen in the next release, nor can it be guaranteed that it will actually happen. Removing the stem traditionally used in the AirPods Pro is a big challenge for Apple.

That said, the projection is that Apple will announce a new entry-level AirPods that would serve as a replacement for the standard AirPods the company markets today. It is not known for sure how much cheaper it would be, but according to a report, the AirPods 3 can cost 20% less than the AirPods Pro, that is, something around US$ 199 (equivalent to R$ 1.102 in current direct conversion).

    AirTags e Apple TV

AirTags have been rumored for at least two years, but so far have not seen the light of day. There is a lot of anticipation for these item tracking accessories to be announced by Apple this year, and we can imagine that this month's event will say something about that.

There is also speculation for a new Apple TV, mainly with Tim Cook's company intent on dominating its streaming competitors. It's not yet clear when this feature will arrive, but if it's not on the 23rd, it's expected to appear sometime this year yet.
