Google has detected a flaw in iOS's iMessage capable of locking an iPhone and leading to the total loss of its data. Project Zero - the group of analysts at Google responsible for detecting errors like these - recently made the data public and declared the issue resolved via an iOS security update.
To put it better, Project Zero usually keeps issues like this a secret for three months. If the company in question does not resolve the situation within the given time, the data is made public - as was the case with Apple.
The fault
According to Google, the system flaw worked as follows: the user received a message (via iMessage) with a set of characters. Soon after, the iPhone stopped responding and was restarted by the user. The situation repeated itself a few more times, until finally the user chose to restore the cell phone, causing his data to be lost.
macOS, in turn, was shown to be unaffected by the same message. He suffered some consequences but on restarting the computer the problem disappeared.

how to solve the situation
Security patches are constantly released by big companies like Apple and even Google. In this case, the solution is no different: iOS version 12.3 makes smartphones immune to this flaw and does not run the risk of losing their data.
So, as already recommended in other articles: keep your smartphone always up to date!
