Google Maps returns to Apple Watch and gets CarPlay function

Recently, in the latest update to the Google Maps app for iOS, two exciting new features have arrived: support for the latest CarPlay feature and the return of the Apple Watch app. These new features will be very useful for those who prefer the Google app over the one developed by Apple.

In case you didn't know, Apple's CarPlay has a new dashboard mode that arrived last year with iOS 13. On this screen is an interface that presents the app side-by-side with information like calendars and music controls. Now, earlier this week, Google said that Google Maps has finally gained support for CarPlay's Dashboard mode.

With this new feature, Google Maps will appear in CarPlay alongside driving cards and a music control utility. In addition, Google Maps is also coming for Apple Watch users, so that the person has access to navigation information directly from the wrist, making it easier to see what they need while walking or on public transport.

In the updated version of the app for Apple Watch, it is possible to access saved destinations, specific shortcuts configured by the user, as well as estimated arrival times and written distance instructions. To start the application, the user can do it through the iPhone and then put the cell phone in the pocket to get the directions from the wrist on the Apple Watch.
