O M It is undoubtedly a device that changed the smartphone market. By delivering the quality and experience of more expensive cell phones for less than R$700,00 (or even close to R$500,00 in promotions), its cost-benefit ratio won over the Spanish consumer. According to the consultancy GFK, the Moto G was the best-selling cell phone in Spain in the last 6 months, winning even over feature phones and more affordable smartphones. This boosted the sales of Motorola by 104% compared to 2013. Not bad.

So, it is no wonder that its second generation was expected with such anticipation and anxiety. we already have one M generation (Dual chip, DTV) in hand! Want to know what we're finding?

Hands-on: What changes in the new Moto G?

A quick look at the spec table will show that apparently little has changed. Appearance, finish, screen resolution, processor, GPU, RAM memory, storage and battery remain the same. But then, what has changed?

In practice, the first thing to notice is that the M grown up. Is very! To keep up with consumers' (or most consumers', see this survey) desire, Motorola increased the screen by 0,5 inches and kept the resolution, which means the pixel density has dropped. Even so, the screen remains with good quality and definition.

Although good, the screen was not used very well by the software. It shows the same amount of information as the old 4,5-inch display, meaning icons look stretched. But nothing that can't be easily solved with an alternative launcher like Nova Launcher, for example.

Another very important aspect is the camera, now with 8 megapixels. Only the resolution doesn't mean much, but in practice the results are impressive. Photos have better definition and more realistic colors compared to its predecessor.

One of the few complaints from some users in the first generation was the lack of expandable storage, which only arrived in the 4G version. Now support for microSD it's standard!

Finally, Motorola decided to please its customers with two front speakers and stereo sound! This is a feature of the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3, which cost much more. The beautiful sound blends in very well with the digital TV, available in the Colors DTV version.

With basically the same hardware, the performance isn't much different from the first-gen Moto G, but that's great! It remains fluid and handles multitasking well. With the same size battery, the new Moto G still manages to last all day, lasting for 11 hours in our tests with still 20% to spare. It is worth mentioning that the screen was on for almost 3 hours.

      Conclusion

The new Moto G is a small evolution, but it makes a big difference in practice. The larger screen, improved camera, stereo sound, microSD input and digital TV enhance the already excellent experience. And all this for the same price as the old one? Sounds like a recipe for success. What about NFC and 4G? As it is still underused, NFC will be little missed by most. 4G would be another very interesting and desired differential. But who knows, Motorola will not launch a second generation Moto G 4G…
