Again, we point out that this list is unofficial and may or may not include the models above. However, if the rumors are correct, the last eligible update for these phones was MIUI 12.5.

    What's new in MIUI 13?

The interesting part of an update is precisely the arrival of new features, functions and options that promote more security, a stable and optimized system, as well as innovative services. In the case of MIUI 13, Chinese sources have suggested the arrival of exceptional functions, but some that are also already present in competing models.

    virtual RAM memory

One of the most awaited news is the function of using virtual RAM memory. This rumor came to light after a developer analyzed the MIUI 12.5 source code and identified the presence of a line that, when translated, says something about "extended RAM".

Comparing the name with the technology of other manufacturers, at least two Chinese models already have this feature of extending the cell's RAM memory. The vivo X60 was the first, and currently even the OnePlus 9 Pro supports this feature. Its operation boils down to giving extra gas when demanding applications are opened. For this, when the RAM is exhausted and the system feels the need for more memory, it automatically "converts" part of the available storage space to give the device's hardware an extra breath.

In theory, this would be of good use on Xiaomi's entry-level and mid-range models. On a device with 4GB of RAM for example, the system could grant an extra 1 or even 2GB. In more robust models with 8GB of RAM, the capacity would be 11GB of RAM. And those who already have 12GB native will be able to benefit even more as if they had 15GB of RAM.

As usual, even after being caught in the interface's source code, Xiaomi hasn't confirmed anything about the feature's arrival and hasn't even talked about its development.

    Nova Mi Control Center

MIUI 12 has already brought a new control center for Xiaomi devices. There, you can control just about everything, like turning the flashlight on and off, turning on Airplane Mode, turning on Battery Saver Mode, screen mirroring, screen recording, file sharing and scanning, and so on.

Now, some sources are already talking about a new function for controlling data directly from the control center. Until then, you can control data consumption within System Settings, but with the feature integrated into the home interface further increases the practicality for those who stay connected for a long time on 3G and 4G networks.

    New camera layout

The features of the cameras will continue to be the same as those already integrated in the respective smartphones. If the model has panorama, ultra wide-angle lens, HDR support and so on, then they will still be fully functional. The expected change in MIUI 13 is only related to the layout, which instead of displaying small information on the screen, there will be icons for each function.

This feature is already in an experimental phase among some users in China and India since the beta versions of MIUI 12, and it can be made official in MIUI 13. If you don't like the new way of displaying the functions, it is worth remembering that it will be possible to revert to the standard mode we know today.

    Floating windows

With the arrival of Android 11, floating windows have greatly improved the versatility for the various contents that can be opened simultaneously. As you read an article on the internet or browse social media, for example, you can chat with any WhatsApp contact in a practical way, without having to keep opening and closing the application.

Instead of being limited to conversations, food delivery and taxi apps will be able to be displayed in floating windows. (Image: Reproduction)

In MIUI 13, the function is even better, not limited to just conversations in instant messaging applications. Now it displays part of the content of another app, like Uber or iFood, for example. As you browse the internet or watch a video on YouTube, a floating window may appear to show that your driver or pizza is arriving.

    New controls

In current versions of Xiaomi's user interface, when you press the Power button (on / off) on your device, a center is displayed with practically four functions, namely: Airplane Mode, Silent Mode, Power Off and Restart the device. According to images and even videos posted online, these functions will be summarized in a single control, similar to what we have for controlling the screen brightness.

If the user swipes up, the device turns off, and if the user swipes down, the system will restart. This new way of turning the Xiaomi device on and off is inspired by what we already have in the latest version of realme UI, realme's user interface.

    The video below shows this new control in action;

Other Chinese sources still say that the volume control will also be displayed differently. Currently, when the volume button is pressed and the user wants details about this function, a large block is displayed on the screen with the controls being displayed individually.

In MIUI 13 they will continue to be displayed separately, each control for a specific volume - notifications, media, alarms - but in a much more modern way, with higher opacity icons, which makes it more pleasing to the eye.

    Other Features

All the news mentioned above are seen as almost confirmed, as they are in the testing phase and must await confirmation from Xiaomi. But in addition to these, there are some rumors that fail to prove what they suggest, and for now they are mere speculation.

Among them there is a new way of displaying the recently opened apps. One developer claimed that MIUI 13 will offer pre-defined display models, such as cube rotation and even one that mimics what we have on iOS, positioning apps in queue on the screen.

It is also speculated that new organization of notifications in the home panel, with specific and reserved places for Conversations, Media Player and more. It would be Xiaomi's proprietary adaptation of a native Android 11 feature.

    MIUI 13 release date

Whenever many leaks begin to be aired on the network, naturally rumors begin to suggest the release date of this novelty. Following this logic, some rumors circulated with the information that MIUI 13 would be presented on June 25 of last year.

However, at that time, Xiaomi went public to deny this information, claiming that the company planning had not even begun to announce the new user interface. Now, it looks like the MIUI 13 release date has finally been announced. Through Twitter, the company confirmed that the update of its new system will be released on the day January 26, the same day that the launch of the Redmi Note 11 line will take place.

Check out the tweet that confirms the MIUI 13 release date:

It is worth remembering that, so far, only the release date should be seen as official information. The company has not yet revealed the list of which smartphones will actually receive MIUI 13 and which will be forgotten by the Chinese giant. Therefore, we emphasize again that the lists found at the beginning of this article cannot be regarded as official, nor even as reliable.

One of the great dissatisfactions of the public is about the dear Redmi Note 8, for example, which according to the list, will not receive the new user interface. If you were disappointed with this information, calm down and wait for new information.
