Electronic locks have become known for their high level of security and practicality, as they are released by password and some even by fingerprint, ensuring that only pre-selected people will have access to the environment protected by it. With new models coming to the market, the path to their popularization is becoming easier and with that also the cheaper their value.

A brand always well known for the quality of its padlocks and locks, paddock, entered this market in residential and corporate security after acquiring an automation startup. They have a complete line of locks, of the most diverse values and even compatible with the Alexa, a great ally in the area of home automation.

Today we are going to get to know the FDE-101RM model lock, an overlap lock, ideal for thinner doors and which follows the ABNT standard.

In addition, it has a new closing system called magnetic roller, ensuring a quieter closing when compared to traditional rollers on the market.

    Design

The lock is an entry-level product of the brand, but even so, its design impresses and matches that of others that are more expensive. Its front is all black, with a virtual keyboard that lights up with one touch for entering the access password, it has opening and closing confirmation lights, a fingerprint reader and also a contact area for external batteries, a emergency in case you forget to change your batteries.

The rear part, which is on the inside of the door, is also all black and has only a silver latch, for manual opening, and a button, which performs the electronic opening.

    Instalação

Its installation is simple and practical, but it is recommended to hire a professional to perform this service, as it will be necessary to drill the door frame.

It is important to emphasize that this lock follows the ABNT standard, which stipulates the standard for locks here in the country. This means that if in the future you decide to change to another model, you will not need to change the entire door, as digital lock models are not universal, as is the case with some imported international models. Just use an ABNT lock.

    Configuration

After installation, its initial configuration is very simple and intuitive. On the back there is a compartment for installing the batteries, it works with 4 AA format batteries. Then, press the button inside the battery compartment to start a voice assistant, which will guide you in configuring the product, registering the numeric access password and registering fingerprints.

This wizard is available in Spanish (PT-BR) and English (EN-US).

    Opening and closing modes

For its opening, from the outside, the Pado FDE-101RM is compatible with the registration of numeric passwords and fingerprints, being that:

    • Numeric passwords must be between 3 to 15 digits
    • It is allowed to register until 196 impressions digital

Internally it is possible to open it by pressing the opening button or just turning the silver key.

On closing, it supports automatic closing, where, after closing the door, it automatically locks after a period between 1 and 8 seconds, to be defined by the user.

Unfortunately, this model is not compatible with smart home protocols, so it will not be possible to use it together with your virtual assistant or with apps for Android and iOS. It also does not support approach keyrings, the so-called RFID technology.

However, the paddock has a complete line of electronic locks and there are models that accept commands from personal assistants such as Alexa, such as the FD-500 Pro, which can even be controlled via the app.

    Security

Even with all its structure, which is already very solid, the lock is not only attached to the door, but also to the jamb. Even so, in case someone tries to break into it or insists on typing incorrect passwords, it has an audible alarm, increasing the safety of residents.

In addition, it also has the so-called Do Not Disturb Mode, which can be activated by pressing the open/close button for 05 seconds. When active, this mode disables all external access options, preventing it from being opened from the outside.

According to Pado, batteries can last between 6 and 12 months, but the greater the use, the shorter the duration. Anyway, it's a very long period. And here's a note: on the manufacturer's website it is advised to use batteries that are not returnable, so here's the warning.

    Price

The FDE-101RM can be found on Pado's own website, with payment options in up to 12 interest-free installments with cashback.

    Conclusion

It is an excellent digital electronic lock. It goes beyond the basics of the category by offering the option of opening by fingerprint as well. The fact that it is a domestically manufactured lock, with local support and assistance, also counts.

The price is a little higher than expected, as there are cheaper options for sale in the international market, but the mix between design, functions and security is excellent in the FDE-101RM.
