Samsung Flip and Stand (sold separately).

Despite theoretically being a touchscreen TV or monitor, the Samsung Flip really tries hard to look like a “whiteboard”. Finished in light gray tone, the tool has, in its lower right corner (in landscape mode), a compartment where the stylus pen that is part of the kit is kept.

This area also has a motion sensor, which notices when you remove the stylus, to automatically turn on the screen.

There is also a sensor NFC for instant connection with smartphone. Just touch your device, and the screen turns on and plays the smartphone's content on the Flip (screen mirroring).

There is also an entry USB 3.0, so you can connect other devices.

Other ports are located on the back. As you would expect, the board has an RJ-45 (Ethernet) connection, plus a USB 3.0 port, a serial port (RS-232), an HDMI input and, finally, a touch out port. This last port, which is actually the good old USB standard, allows control a computer through the touch screen of the Flip.

    Portrait Mode

Samsung sells separately a stand capable of moving and rotating the Flip to portrait mode. It is able to move – via wheels that can be locked and unlocked – and can rotate the Flip to portrait mode. In addition, on the support there is also a shelf, to leave pens and documents.

Flip screen can be rotated to portrait mode.

With touch screen 55 inches and 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels), the Samsung Flip has what it takes to demonstrate any type of content with fidelity and richness in detail. Here, the viewing angle of up to 178º and the display has Edge LED technology, favoring even those colleagues sitting in uncomfortable places.

The use of InGlass technology – patented by the company FlatFrog – makes the touch screen of the Samsung Flip something a little out of the ordinary. This is because, in the end, it is not a capacitive or infrared touch screen, but a display insensitive to electrical interference and much more intuitive.

It is impossible to write or scribble something on the screen with your fingertips.

The screen recognizes the touch of hands and even lets you erase information with your palm – as if you were erasing chalk from a traditional whiteboard.

    Operating system and features

REVIEW: Samsung Flip is an interactive display for meeting rooms
Flip uses the Tizen 3.0 operating system.

What do we see? Flip It's a very familiar interface. After all, the framework uses a variant of the operating system Tizen 3.0, which in this case is fully adapted to bring greater fluidity to meetings. In this way, all the editing features of the Samsung Flip They are very agile and work as they should. The impression is of using an interactive paper.

And speaking of editing features, on the board you can do things like: create a roll with 20 blank pages; choose and open saved page rolls; save completed jobs; switch between white and black backgrounds and configure how to use the pens. It is worth remembering that it is possible to do all this with up to 4 users simultaneous.

The two pens, which are essential for using the Flip, are made of wood and very reminiscent of a pencil. They even have two types of tips with different functions. With the fine point (2 mm) it is possible to write notes or draw. Meanwhile, with the thicker tip (4 mm), we highlight the material being displayed through markings and underlining.

You can also change the colors of each pen tip.

still about the stylus, it is also possible to change – by touching the screen for a few seconds – the colors from each of the pens tips. As for the rest of the pen settings, unfortunately it is necessary to access another less practical panel to perform them.

Um negative point regarding the use of pens is the absence of pressure sensitive touch. That is, if you have a creative use in mind and want to delve into the issue of drawings, this can be a decisive point for you. On the other hand, the user is not obliged to use only the pens included in the box, and it is possible to use accessories from other brands.

Finally, the Flip count with loudspeakers of the stereo type that are there more to break the branch than for extreme use, since each one of them has a power of 10 W.

You can import files and even see your smartphone screen in Flip.

As stated earlier, the Samsung Flip was made to bring practicality to meeting rooms. One of the ways to accomplish this is through the availability of various means of to import files for the frame and export them then to all co-workers.

Although it allows the import of files and images in the IWB format, the smart board doesn't go beyond that. In other words, if you wanted to view something on your flash drive, know that the Flip will only recognize file types produced by itself.

However, the Samsung Flip is not limited to only this type of connection, since it also uses the tech NFC for file transfer. In this case, there is also a software limitation: only Galaxy line smartphones with Android 8.0 Oreo or higher can take advantage of this feature.

The user can also do the mirroring through an HDMI cable.

Another option is the screen mirroring done via WiFi. This, in turn, works on any smartphone or PC, but on devices from the Samsung, you can use the feature Smart view to enhance the user experience with more settings. It is worth mentioning that, in the case of computers and notebooks, the user can also do the mirroring through a HDMI cable, which provides more stable connection.

But and for export files, what are the possibilities? Here, the Samsung Flip – which has 8 GB of internal storage – guarantees four options: print the files; send them by email; transfer them via USB devices or even save them on previously configured servers.
