The TV market is gaining more and more models from the most varied brands. This year, especially in Spain, the legendary brand Toshiba is back, in a partnership with multilaser. they brought screens smarts of 55 and 65 inches, and the Techlifers had the chance to analyze the model of TV Toshiba 55. Is this TV a good option for those looking for a smart TV? Check it out in our review:

    Design

    Discreet design.

The smart TV Toshiba of 55 inches has a very minimalist design, made, according to the company, so that the viewer feels more immersed with the content. In practice, this means that the TV has thin edges, a base that looks more like a stand to hold pictures and, in addition to all that, it has a minimum thickness.

I confess that at first, especially when installing the product, all these design comments didn't seem to make sense to me. However, after it was installed and ready to be watched, the shock came: regardless of how far I or my family were from it, the feeling that the image blended into the environment is impressive. Even on other recent smart TVs we have at home, the edges, as thin as they look, don't feel like that.

It is 122 cm wide by 78 cm high and 8 cm deep, and according to the company, the use of screen space in relation to the front of the device is 95%. Really, a considerable number and one that makes a big impact. Couple that with 3 HDMI inputs, 2 USB and optical audio output and we have a TV that covers the needs of modern homes.

    Conectividade

    TV inputs.

The device's 3 HDMI inputs are 2.0 CEC type and capable of processing 4K and 60Hz content, which makes the TV ideal for new generation video games. Tested with both a PlayStation 5 and an Xbox Series S, the results were great. One of the 3 HDMI inputs is also ARC, that is, it allows the devices connected to this input to be controlled from the TV's own remote control. For those who use home theater and don't want to have multiple controls, it's very useful.

The product's USB ports are 2.0, as we've seen on most smart TVs. To connect to the internet, it can be either by cable or via Wi-Fi, and it supports 2.4 and 5GHZ networks in A/B/G/N/AC protocols. The connection proved to be very stable all the time where it was positioned, and it was possible to see the contents of the Netflix and Prime Video smoothly and smoothly, without crashes.

Finally, the TV has bluetooth 5.0 and Alexa personal assistant, from Amazon, which we will talk about later below.

    Image and sound

Review: Toshiba 55 Quantum DOT 4K TV brings excellent picture and impresses
Playing Ratchet and Clank: Into a New Dimension on this screen was an amazing experience.

A TV Toshiba 55 55M550KB da Toshiba has the technology of Quantum Dots which instead of using white LEDs on the lighting panel, uses blue LEDs, improving the accuracy of red and green filters, so that the screen produces more beautiful and accurate colors.

The layer on the front of TVs with this technology also dispenses with the liquid crystals common in other devices, being made of nanocrystals with different sizes that, from the incidence of light, create different colors according to the size of the crystal particle. These nanocrystals are still surrounded by metallic alloys, forming the so-called Quantum Dots. Thanks to the housings, screens with this technology have a better viewing angle and contrast than LCD devices.

In practice, compared to smart LED TVs, the Toshiba It has a higher brightness and more vivid colors. Couple that with its 4K resolution and we have a great image result. THE HDR 10 transforms TV images, it's great to have the feature present here, mainly because it's applied to each frame instead of a general application, as in HDR. This allows the images shown on the screen to always be with the highest possible color fidelity.

According to Toshiba, “technology Quantum Dot Color of the new Toshiba 4K TV can reproduce over a billion shades of color, with much greater accuracy than conventional LED TVs,” and we can't disagree. I noticed, however, that the black displayed on the screen looked a little bluish to me. Honestly, it's a minor problem and one that can go unnoticed for a lot of people, but it's good to keep in mind.

The product is also compatible with the Dolby Vision. In short, this makes content compatible with Dolby technology display greater brightness and less distortion. Having this technology present on the TV is fantastic for watching movies and having an experience closer to cinema quality. Couple that with also present compatibility with the Dolby Atmos, audio technology that makes users involved in a 3D sound propagation, simulating cinema, and we have a really complete device capable of providing a very immersive visual and sound experience.

The TV audio, by the way, is quite competent. Even with content that does not support Dolby Atmos, the speakers already deliver excellent and especially loud reproduction. At no point during my testing, whether it's movies or games, did I have to turn it above 25% volume to hear clearly. In the moments that I tested with higher levels, like 50%, the quality is still very good, but I felt my chest vibrating with the shots - something that I'm sure some people like, but for me it's a sign of the volume limit being exceeded.

In some PC games, though, this is perhaps where the screen leaves a little to be desired. As much as its HDMI 2.0 inputs generate 4K and 60Hz images, which is fantastic for new consoles, the lack of frame sync technologies like AMD FreeSync makes the TV a less competitive option for computer gamers. Playing Metro Exodus on an RTX 3060 and with the image being passed to the TV, I could see the lack of the resource, with constant lack of frame sync and image breaks.

    Operating system and usability

Review: Toshiba 55 Quantum DOT 4K TV brings excellent picture and impresses
The operating system is the only point that the TV leaves something to be desired.

A TV Toshiba 55 comes with the operating system VIDAA, business owner, but not exclusive. It is a fast system, largely because of the quad-core processor. CEVO 4K HDR Engine, but unfortunately it is limited. There are not hundreds of apps available in it, but the main and most used ones like YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Plex e Deezer are present. Apps like Crunchyroll, Twitch or even Google Play Movies are not found.

The TV also has an “art mode”, simulating the “lifestyle” experience. When activated, the screen will display artwork. It's a more aesthetic detail, but together with the minimalist design of the device, it makes the experience a little more premium and creates a new option for use and even decoration of the environment.

When the TV is on, it can be voice controlled from the Alexa. When you press a button on the remote, the TV enters voice recognition mode, and can obey commands such as controlling lights on in Alexa, programming it to turn off in an hour or changing the channel. It is an extra feature that is not yet present in many other TVs and is certainly a positive point of the Toshiba.

Finally, speaking of the remote control, it is super complete and has shortcuts to the main streaming apps available: Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video and a button of Clear. It is a good remote control, which helps to have quick access to the main functions of the TV, and that is already included in the box along with the batteries.

    Price

As of the date of this publication, the TV Toshiba 55 55M550KB can be found for less than R$ 4.200,00 and has a 12-month warranty offered by the manufacturer, which can be interpreted as an indication of the quality of the product. The 65-inch model with similar functions is sold for values close to R$ 6.000,00.

    Conclusion

The 55” TV from Toshiba is an excellent and complete option available in the Spanish market, thanks to its Quantum Dot technology that displays up to one billion colors, 4K resolution, Dolby Atmos quality audio and Alexa compatibility, it will leave any user very satisfied.
