Sony refunds unhappy players with Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4

This weekend it was reported on Reddit (via VGC) that Sony is refunding Cyberpunk 2077 players due to dissatisfaction with the game on PS4 (even after the 2 hour time limit). If you do a quick search on YouTube videos, you will see the various performance issues that users of CD Projekt Red's newest game are experiencing. According to the analysis by Digital Foundry's expert team, there was "exceptionally low performance" on the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

User "NotBen_2" reported on Reddit saying:

"I had to file a support claim online and wait over an hour to speak to someone, however they were quick to issue a refund and then delete the game from my library."

In the same Reddit post it was reported that Sony was "issuing a commercial complaint to CD Projekt Red about the issues". The player complained saying:

"I spent an hour on the phone after being denied by the Chatbot and got my refund! The game crashed and I couldn't progress further. That's pretty much all I have to say."

Not everyone got a refund, but CD Projekt Red spoke out

While some managed to get a refund, not all were so lucky. Some players were denied refund by Sony. Fortunately CD Projekt Red spoke out today about the case saying:

    "Dear players,

First of all, we'd like to start by apologizing to you for not showing the game on next-gen consoles before its debut, and consequently for not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase. We should have paid more attention to making it work better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Second, we will fix bugs and crashes and improve the overall experience. The first round of updates has just been released and the next one will come in the next 7 days. Please wait longer as we will update frequently whenever new improvements are ready. After the holidays we'll keep working - we'll release two big patches starting with Patch #1 in January. This will be followed by Patch #2 in February. Together, they must fix the most important issues gamers face on next-gen consoles. We will be informing you about the contents of each patch before its release. They won't make the last-gen game feel like it's running on a high-spec PC or high-end console, but it will be closer to that experience than it is now.

Finally, we always want everyone who buys our games to be satisfied with their purchase. We'd appreciate it if you'd give us a chance, but if you're not happy with the game on your console and don't want to wait for updates, you can choose to refund your copy. For copies purchased digitally, please use the PSN or Xbox refund system respectively. For packaged versions, first try to get a refund from the store where you purchased the game. If this is not possible, please contact us at [email protected] and we will do our best to help you. Starting today, you can contact us for a week until December 21, 2020.

    Humbly

Marcin Iwiński, Adam Kiciński, Adam Badowski, Michał Nowakowski, Piotr Nielubowicz, Piotr Karwowski

Note: PC players will also receive regular updates and fixes to improve the game."
