Update 10.4 for Final Cut Pro X brings support for VR, HDR and H.265

Apple announced during the Final Cut Pro X Creative Summit the news for the 10.4 update for Final Cut Pro X. One of the news is that the company's video editor will receive support for virtual reality, HDR and H.265.

The highlight goes to the possibility of videos in High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), known H.265, which was introduced by Apple in macOS High Sierra and iOS 11. Users can with this format create videos in 4K or 8K with half the size of the H.264 codec while maintaining image quality.

With this, footage recorded with iPhone 7 in 4K H.265 quality or even higher version can be edited in Final Cut Pro X timeline. Users will also be able to import iMovie files to iOS as well as encode HDR videos and create virtual reality content.

The new virtual reality tool will be supported in Apple's graphics software, Motion 5. In addition, the app will support two different screens for VR glasses. The update will also support the Rec 2020 color space for HDR videos, present in 4K and 8K resolutions.
