Apple officially announces the iPhone 12 event for October 13

Apple officially announces the iPhone 12 event for October 13

Much like WWDC 2020 and September's 'Time Flies' event, the iPhone 12 announcement event will be completely virtual and streamed directly from Apple Park. Apple is sharing the event with the slogan "Hi, Speed".

This event will be Apple's second major event this year. On September 15, Apple held a virtual event to announce its latest Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 6 hardware, along with the new iPad Air and 8th Gen iPad, Apple Fitness+ and Apple One service pack.

The slogan "Hi, Speed" is a clear hint for the iPhone 12 with 5G connectivity and A14 processor. The circular rings also hark back to Siri's interface amid rumors of a smaller HomePod. Furthermore, the invitation does not give any other hints of what Apple could announce at the event.

The Apple event will take place on October 13th, starting at 14pm ET and will be streamed live on the Apple website, the Apple TV app and likely YouTube. We'll have more details soon, including instructions on how to attend, when the day of the event arrives.

What to expect from the iPhone 12

Apple is expected to release four new iPhone 12 models this year: a 12-inch iPhone 5,4, a 12-inch iPhone 6,1 Max, a 12-inch iPhone 6,1 Pro, and a 12-inch iPhone 6,7 Pro Max. XNUMX inches. In addition to the clear difference between sizes, it is believed that the difference between the models will be their set of cameras.

The 12-inch iPhone 5,4 and 12-inch iPhone 6,1 Max should arrive with a dual camera set, while the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max should arrive with a triple camera set in addition to the new LiDAR Scanner.

Other features in the iPhone 12 lineup include OLED screens across the lineup, as well as 5G connectivity. The iPhone 12 lineup will reportedly support mmWave 5G as well as sub-5GHz 6G.

In terms of design, the devices are expected to have flat edges similar to the iPhone 4, iPhone 5 and the latest iPad Pro. In terms of branding, there is mounting evidence of the likely names for this year's iPhone lineup to be:

    • iPhone 12 mini: 5,4 inches
    • iPhone 12: 6,1 inch
    • iPhone 12 Pro: 6,1 inch
    • iPhone 12 Pro Max: 6,7 inches

While Apple will be announcing the new iPhone 12 on October 13th, that doesn't necessarily mean that all four models will be available on the day and not even until the end of October.

Reports indicate that Apple is planning a staggered release schedule for the iPhone 12, with some not arriving until mid-November. In addition to the iPhone 12, other possibilities for the October event include Apple's AirPods Studio headphones, AirTag item trackers, a new Apple TV and Siri Remote, and news about the transition from Apple Silicon to Mac.
