Apple uses stores as distribution centers to speed delivery of new products

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple has started using its retail stores as distribution centers for its products, which other companies have been doing for some time.

Apple products are normally shipped from warehouses close to the customer's region or directly from China in some situations, but now deliveries will come directly from the nearest Apple Store if the product is available there.

Apple officially announces the iPhone 12 event for October 13

There are already more than 300 stores prepared to operate as Apple distribution centers in the United States and Canada. The company's expectation is to reduce delivery times for those who live far from its warehouses. Apple has partnered with FedEx and UPS to deliver the orders, and most orders must be delivered the same day the customer places the order.

From the Retail Stores to the customer

Apple began testing the program with a small number of stores after locations began reopening due to Covid-19-related closures in June and July. It has been implemented on most, but not all, retail sites in the US and Canada.

However, the customer will not be able to choose whether the product will be shipped from a warehouse or the Apple Store. Apple will review the shipping address to choose the best option available.

This decision comes ahead of the launch of the iPhone 12 which will be announced next week and is of course expected to be in great demand. With this new method, Apple will likely be able to better handle the large number of online orders for new iPhones. In addition, shipping products directly from its retail stores will reduce the company's operating costs, thus joining the useful to the aggravating, the customer receives the purchased product faster and Apple spends less on logistics for this to occur.
