Apple will have to pay hefty fine for not fixing iPhones in Australia

The Australian Federal Court sentenced Apple to pay a fine of around US$6,8 million for failing to repair defective iPhones and iPads. According to what was revealed, the Cupertino giant said it could not solve an error that prevented the use of Touch ID on devices.

This happened because customers had their iPhones or iPads repaired at authorized third-party stores. So, after a security check, Apple devices had error 53 that prevented the use of Touch ID.

Anyway, Apple continued to deny the existence of the problem and refuse to fix the devices with error 53.

Apple even reported that it had fixed the problem in iOS 9.2.1. However, it appears that the problem has not been completely resolved. This is all because many Australians still continued to complain that their devices were without access to Touch ID.

In any case, Apple continued to deny the existence of the problem and refuse to repair the devices with error 53. For this reason, the Australian Competition and Consumption Commission (ACCC) filed a lawsuit against the Cupertino giant accusing the company of violating the rights of the consumer.

The ACCC also carried out a secret operation with Apple retailers and found that Apple refuses to repair iPhones and also iPads that passed through third-party stores. Taking the facts into account, the court found the company guilty and fined it in an exemplary manner.

To top it off, Apple may be required to offer repairs to all users who still have problems with their iPhones. For now, we don't know if Apple will appeal the decision.
