Apple develops new technologies like many companies in the field, this interest is more than common to ensure market presence in the years and decades to come, accompanying other brands and innovating on its own. That's why there was talk of Apple's autonomous vehicles, information that is now partially denied.
Apple does work with autonomous vehicles, and it also has its own vehicles for testing, but it does not plan to launch them like this, the company will not have its own autonomous vehicles on the market. On the other hand, Apple actually invests in the vehicle automation system to be used in third-party vehicles.
The brand's test cars are already circulating on US roads, with sensors mounted and in order to collect information. The solution presented by Apple is also being seen in action on California's roads: a triple system based on LIDAR, radar and cameras.
The first component is an optical remote sensing technology that measures properties of the reflected light in order to obtain the distance and/or other information about a certain distant object, and by the way it is a very expensive investment. That's why Apple is looking for a way to replace it, perhaps with alternatives based only on cameras, which was the solution chosen by Tesla.
It is already Apple's third change in the vehicle's design, as can be seen in the video and images above. The first was coarser and heavier, then the brand placed the sensors on the roof of the car, in a more discreet, more functional and more efficient way.
