Facebook announces it may ban users who share fake news

Since the beginning of the pandemic o Facebook has been working to create solutions that aim to prevent the spread of fake news on the platform, whether about politics, Coronavirus (Covid-19) or other subjects. The social network announced this week that it will adopt stricter rules against users who frequently share news flagged as false.

One of the measures adopted to reduce the spread of fake news was the arrival of a system that will automatically inform if the page in question is popularly known for posting fake news, advising the user not to share so that he does not suffer from the new restrictions.

New restrictions on the social network

Facebook has announced that it will limit the viewing of fake news, in this way, publications that contain fake news will have their reach restricted. In addition, users who frequently share this type of content may have their account suspended and, in more serious cases, be banned from the social network.

Instagram also has measures against spreading fake news., using keywords related to Covid-19, adding verified information about the disease. Unlike Facebook, Instagram has a stricter regime with users who share misleading content, limiting the ability to comment, publish stories or post new profile photos.

"Starting today, we will reduce the distribution of all News Feed posts from an individual's Facebook account if they repeatedly share content rated by one of our fact-checking partners," the company said.

Recently, YouTube started removing several videos in which the content creator mentions alternative forms of treatment that are not guaranteed to be effective by the World Health Organization (WHO). Among the videos removed are those that treat positively about Hydroxychloroquine, early treatment or the so-called 'Covid kit'.
