Facebook is developing its own operating system

According to information from the portal The Information, in an attempt to become independent to stop using Google's Android, Facebook would have started the development of its own operating system.

This means that, in the future, the company's hardware products, such as the Oculos Rift and the Portal smart speaker, must run the system created by itself. The new report, which quotes Ficus Kirkpatrick, a Facebook executive, says that this first OS, with an as-yet-unknown name, will be built from scratch. Reportedly, the project is being led by Mark Lukovsky, a former Microsoft engineer who co-founded Windows NT.

Unfortunately, nothing has been said about when the operating system should be released, nor do we know which products will use it first. However, everything indicates that the company really intends to leverage this project, and considering that development has started now, the launch should take some time to happen.

In a statement, Andrew Bosworth, Facebook's head of augmented and virtual reality, said: "We really want to make sure that the next generation has room for us. We don't think we can trust the market or competitors to make sure that's the case. So Let's do this alone."

In addition to its operating system, it seems that the social network is developing a voice assistant that should compete with Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant, but so far there is not much information about this product.
