    Facebook Messenger will display advertisements

This Tuesday (11), Facebook messenger revealed that it will begin to "globally" expand its tests of displaying ads in Messenger, its instant messaging application.

According to the company itself, the expansion will take place "after promising tests in Australia and Thailand", which began in January this year. The tool will now allow companies and services to display advertisements on the Messenger home screen.

Ads will be shown between users' conversations, and will still have a "sponsored" indication in the upper left corner. In this way, when people click on the ad, they will be transferred to a destination selected by the advertiser, which could be the company's website or even a conversation with the company through Messenger.

According to Facebook, ads of this type will provide businesses with "a new tool to build valuable connections with existing and potential customers." It is worth mentioning that the application already has more than 1,2 billion users worldwide.

Facebook's initiative does not come as a big surprise, as the company has already indicated that it intended to insert advertisements since the beginning of 2016, alleging that it was running out of space to insert more advertisements on its social network. Expanding advertising to Messenger would be the most appropriate solution for Facebook.
