Recently Facebook began testing a new feature that aims to warn its users against "extremist attitudes". Through alert messages, the social network is seeking to make people aware of discourses on subjects taken to the extreme.
The first reports came through CNN, where it is said that Facebook is sending warnings to people who have been identified as extremists, to those who may know someone with this type of behavior, and to warn against content that is considered extremist.

Among the messages displayed by Facebook, there are phrases such as:
"Are you worried that someone you know is turning into an extremist?"
"You can act now to protect yourself and others."

A Facebook spokesperson, Andy Stone, says the messages sent through the platform are "part of our ongoing work by the Redirect Initiative". The social network has lately been trying to join efforts to combat extremism through groups such as "Life After Hate".

It is not known exactly what way Facebook found to find which users may be having extremist attitudes. However, the issue has become a hot topic on the social network and the company has already been accused of failing in its role in regulating the platform to prevent extremist events at the beginning of the year.
