It seems like every week there is new information about the production and release date of the iPhone 12 that contradicts the previous one, the latest information comes from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who says that most Apple smartphones face delays despite assurances from Apple. Foxconn that it's making up for lost time.
Starting with the new iPhone SE (2020), whose pre-order has started, but arrives only sometime in the month of May, but the delay here is not bad, in fact the delay was due to an above-expected demand.
The analyst expects 12-14 million iPhone SEs (2020) to ship later this quarter, followed by 10 million in Q2020 XNUMX.
However, Ming-Chi Kuo warns that this will be at the expense of the more premium iPhone 11 models, in times of financial uncertainty, consumers prefer the more affordable product. Forecasts for iPhone shipments in the second quarter were reduced by 30%.
Production of the upcoming iPhone 12 models, rumored to be four models, says Kuo - has been partially delayed. Due to travel bans, Apple had to insure its employees locally, which led to a 1 month delay.
Also, the mmWave antenna had to be re-engineered in April, which caused additional delays (to make matters worse, the testing labs are closed). It's unclear whether all iPhone 12 models will have mmWave connectivity, so it's unclear whether this delay affects all models (they will all have sub-6GHz 5G).
The 12" and 5,4" iPhone 6,1 models are now expected to enter mass production in September. And production of the 6,7" model, the most complicated model, according to Kuo, will be delayed until October.
Apple withdrew the iPhone 8 when the new SE replaced it, but it also stopped selling the iPhone 8 Plus and there is still no replacement for the model. An iPhone SE Plus was expected in the first half of 2021, but all these production delays will take it back to the second half, predicts the analyst. The iPad Pro 5G was already late (according to a Chinese publication).
Apple, like other manufacturers, continue to suffer from the new coronavirus pandemic, so any delay in this year 2020 is at least justifiable and understood by everyone.
