It's the end! Samsung ends support for the Galaxy S8 after four years

Launched in March 2017, the Galaxy S8 lineup consists of four models: Standard Galaxy S8, S8 Plus, S8 Lite and S8 Active. This Tuesday (4), the South Korean giant confirmed the end of support for two of the company's main flagships four years ago.

Samsung has continued to periodically update its various models since then, but as of this week, Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are no longer part of your software updates program. The information comes from the manufacturer itself, which released the statement on the company's official support page.

Responsible for major innovations, the Galaxy S8 was the first to have a screen with few edges, in addition to a processor manufactured in the 10 nm standard and to have a USB-C port. It is also worth noting that he was one of the first models to retire the Home button, common on Samsung models.

    Galaxy S8 not supported

During four years, the devices received several security fixes and also software updates. In 2017, the four devices arrived running the Android 7.0 Nougat, and later received the update to the Android 8.0 Oreo, until reaching the Android 9.0 Pie in February 2019.

That means they are part of the latest batch of Samsung releases that have a program for up to two major system updates. Recently, the company reevaluated its support program and increased the outlook for up to three major versions of Android.

All four models in the Galaxy S8 family received security updates every six months. However, while the S8 and S8 Plus received the latest version in April 2021, Galaxy S8 Lite and S8 Active models still continue to receive quarterly updates. That's because these devices were launched in August 2017.
