Samsung announced this Tuesday (9), the launch of First 14GB Low Power Double Data Rate 16X (LPDDR5X) 5nm DRAM memory. According to the company, the module is designed to run high-speed applications involving, for example, the 5G connection, artificial intelligence (AI) and the metaverse. LPDDR5X memory developed by Samsung is a mobile chip designed to raise the bar in speed, capacity and energy efficiency for applications such as 5G.

Samsung announces the 1st LPDDR5X DRAM memory
Earlier, in 2018, the South Korean cellphone maker even launched an 5GB LPDDR8 memory and now it is bringing the new generation of its hardware. Samsung Electronics Senior Vice President and Head of DRAM Design Team SangJoon Hwang says:
"Over the past few years, hyperconnected market segments such as AI, augmented reality (AR) and the metaverse that rely on extremely fast large-scale data processing have been expanding rapidly. Our LPDDR5X will expand both high-performance and low-performance memory usage energy consumption beyond smartphones and will bring new capabilities to cutting-edge AI-based applications such as servers and even automobiles."
RAM Plus: Samsung will release feature that increases cell memoryThe LPDDR5X offers data processing speeds of up to 8,5Gbps, which is 1,3 times faster than the 6,4 GBps of LPDDR5. Furthermore, due to the use of a 14nm lithography, the energy efficiency improved by 20% compared to the previous generation. In terms of capacity, the Samsung LPDDR5X has 16GB chips that can go up to 64GB in a kit.
Launch and availability
According to Samsung, in 2021, the company will partner with global chipset manufacturers to form a viable framework for expanding digital reality. The goal is to use its LPDDR5X memory as fundamental hardware to achieve this goal.
