    Samsung announces the Exynos 1080, its first 5nm chipset

    Samsung has finally announced the Exynos 1080, its latest-generation processor, with several built-in features and which is expected to replace the Exynos 980. This chipset is the Korean company's first chipset built on 5nm EUV FinFET technology.

    The South Korean company presents the chip with octa-core technology and with four Cortex-A78 cores, plus four Cortex-A55 units. Cortex-A78 cores are more powerful and run their work at a frequency of 2.8GHz. The Cortex-A55 reaches 2,0 GHz. Its GPU is the Mali-G78 MP10.



    The company's new chipset still comes integrated with 5G technology, compatible with Sub-6GHz standards, and also mmWave millimeter waves. The Exynos 1080 should also arrive with Cat.18 LTE downlink and uplink. It also provides other types of modern connections like Bluetooth 5.2 and all-band Wi-Fi and FM Radio.

    The RAM memory standards supported by the Exynos 1080 are the most advanced, such as LPDDR4x and LPDDR5. For storage, its compatibility is based on UFS 3.1, a faster type of memory for next-generation smartphones.

    The devices that will come with the Exynos 1080 will be able to use a WQHD+ display with up to 90Hz refresh rate, or more robust panels like Full HD+ with a refresh rate of 144Hz.

    In terms of camera, the Exynos 1080 supports up to 200 megapixels in a single camera or two 32 megapixel + 32 megapixel lenses, with support for 4K videos at 60fps.

    Launch

    This chipset line should replace the Exynos 980 that was launched in 2019. A Samsung representative revealed that the company will start using this new processor in its own devices, and only then will it start supplying other companies in the field.



    The manufacturer's intention is to start producing devices with the Exynos 1080, starting in January of next year.
