According to the information, the companies have entered into an agreement for Samsung to buy up to 1 million OLED displays from LG in the second half of 2021 and up to 4 million screens in 2022.
Although Samsung has become famous for its TVs with QLED technology and is one of the largest manufacturers of OLED screens for smartphones in the world, it does not have its production focused on larger displays with such technology. Because of this, due to the fact that LG already has factories focused on the manufacture of OLED screens, the supply of parts by the competitor will be cheaper for Samsung. Sony is also known to use LG's OLED displays in its TVs.
The information released makes sense when analyzing recent changes in the flat panel industry. Yonhap reports that LG and Samsung are shifting their current focus from LCD TVs to higher-end models. Currently, according to the information, it is made by Chinese companies such as BOE, CSOT and HCK, companies that are currently the three largest producers of display manufacturing of the aforementioned technology.
