Samsung delays Galaxy Fold launch after screen problems

Samsung has officially announced that it will delay the launch of its foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold. After problems with the device's screen, Samsung had announced that it would investigate the issues, but would keep the device's release date.

However, now the Korean manufacturer seems to have changed its mind. In an emailed statement, Samsung said that in order to "fully evaluate this feedback and perform further internal testing, we have decided to delay the launch of the Galaxy Fold. We plan to announce the release date in the coming weeks."

This does not mean that the device will be released in the next few weeks, but rather that the new release date will be announced in the next few weeks. It's possible that Samsung could end up delaying the new smartphone for months, especially considering the fact that there seem to be a number of issues at play.

The editor-in-chief of Engadget in China, Richard Lai, posted on his Twitter last Sunday (21) that the launch of the Galaxy Fold would be delayed in Hong Kong and Shanghai. The event should take place next Tuesday (21) and Wednesday (22), respectively.

In a statement, Samsung details more about the launch issues:

"Initial inspection findings of reported display issues showed that they could be associated with impact on exposed areas of the hinge. There was also a case where substances found inside the device affected the display's performance."

"We will take steps to strengthen screen protection. We will also improve guidance on display care and use, including the protective layer, so that our customers can get the most out of the Galaxy Fold."

Samsung clearly doesn't want to risk launching a product with a major flaw, as we still remember the big headache (and losses) the company had in the case of the Galaxy Note 7 recall.

Launch events have been postponed, and anyone who was eager to get the foldable-screen smartphone will have to wait a little longer.
