It could be that Google is investing in innovative technology for television sets. The website Ausdroid spotted an application that was filed with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which specifies a dongle, a device that would bring 4k to Google's Android TV platform straight to television.
The device is from Shenzhen SEI Robotics, which already has an Android TV dongle on its website. About the dongle, it has a rounded teardrop shape and an HDM cable, it also has a micro USB charging port and the Google G on the surface. And yet, along with the device comes a remote control with a built-in microphone and a button that calls the Assistant, so that voice commands can be made.
In addition to the product being quite interesting, it is unclear if it is officially licensed, and from the company there has been no comment or mention of its involvement. Google also did not agree to comment on the alleged dongle, so it is possible that the product is not even official.
So far, Android TV offers three Chromecast devices capable of streaming Full HD videos, 4k videos and audios to the smartphone's speakers. But for The Next Web, putting Android TV on a tiny dongle could be the next step for Google's lineup of entertainment hardware.
Only a few TVs are supported to receive the most powerful Android TV platform, supporting ample space for apps and being able to display more Assistant content. Some set-top-box-style devices from Xiaomi, Nvidia and Razer are also supported.
Launched in 2014 as a reference device for Android TV, the Nexus Player is made by Asus and received its last update in March, so it may be that Google's time to innovate is really now.
