Review: LG G Flex 2, or curved and powerful smartphone

The search for innovation is something constant in this technological world in which we live. the bet of LG in this sense it is a smartphone with curved design, the  LG G Flex 2, which adds to the LG G4 as the company's new top of the line.

But has it been able to combine performance, usability and innovation in a top of the line enough to justify its price that goes from R $ 2.348,13 to R$ 3.248,99? And does he bend more than one iPhone 6 in my pocket or if I sit on it will it hold? Is it cumbersome to carry it in your pocket because of the curved design? And if it falls, will it all fall apart? Does the battery leave it on all day or will it let you down? Let's find out all that in this review!

    Layout and Finishing

Review: LG G Flex 2, or curved and powerful smartphone

The first question that everyone, without exception, asked me when they saw him was: “Is this cell phone really crooked?”. "Yes it is!" I would say, and the most curious would complete by asking: “But why?”. If “because yes is not the answer”, I had to create my own: the curved screen has little practical advantage, just being prettier than the conventional screen.

Other than that, it can be argued that the device fits better in the hands than a flat model. See below the LG G Flex 2 at all angles:

It is a cell phone for those who have a refined taste and appreciate details. Its finish is impeccable. Although its housing is made of plastic, or “metal like”, which is a brushed plastic made to give the impression that it is metal, it does not really appear to be plastic, and even more, a cheap plastic, as in other tops of the line by Ouch.

In this the LG Capricious and took the opportunity to use a type of plastic that automatically regenerates from small scratches, as well as the L original. But in my tests it got light scratches and didn't regenerate. Or else, I don't know how light the LG I was speaking. Unfortunately this test failed.

The device did not pass the regeneration test

The curved design makes it so much easier. Despite its size, keeping the device in your pocket is practical, as it fits on your leg and even disappears at certain times, which is good. The aluminum border around the display and on the side give the final touch of beauty to this device.

The fact that it does not have any buttons on the sides helps in the grip of the device, it is possible to use it with one hand even if it is necessary to use the physical buttons that are on the back just below the camera, as in the already known LG G3 and others from LG. If your hand is small, you can turn to the software and change the settings for one-handed use.

Name Flex It's not by chance and not just because of the curved screen and design. Mobile is really flexible, resisting torsion well against the screen. So, you won't have any problems if you sit on the device by mistake. In this the LG Capriche and made a very resistant device.

    Video display and playback

The screen is another highlight of this device. with a display P-OLED curve of 5,5 inches and resolution FullHD (1080 x 1920 pixels) and 403 ppi the screen has vibrant colors and exceptional brightness and has protection Gorilla Glass 3.

LG ensures that the curved display helps to absorb impacts from drops and I was accidentally able to verify that it actually works. I put it in my wardrobe and it slipped from a height of 1,60sq.m and did not suffer any damage, the record is for those interested.

O OLED display it has very vivid colors and an intense shine, the black is really black and at times depending on your angle of view you can't see the edges. The screen is suitable for watching movies and series (I watched an episode of Daredevil on it) and great for viewing photos taken on the device. I would spend all day watching it, as it is a very light device and does not bother at all to hold it and a 10 for the headphones that came in the box.

In-ear headphones LG Quadbeat 2 are excellent and have volume controls and music pause controls in addition to the flat cable, that is, you won't go crazy trying to unscrew the headphone cord. They have good sound quality, bass well present and three sizes of rubber to change.

As for the brightness of the screen, a note: I managed to use it with the brightness at zero all day and, at night, I wanted to reduce the brightness even more, but it was not possible. In total darkness it is still very strong and in the sun it does not have a good visibility, like the displays of the Nokia who have the technology ClearBlack, for example. In general, it's a good screen to consume content (one of the best available, by the way), but it's not very good in environments with strong sun.

    Speed, performance and internal storage

This is where I was disappointed with the device. THE LG G Flex 2 is equipped with the brand new SoC Snapdragon 810, an octa-core with 64-bit support, with quad-core ARM Cortex A57 and quad-core A53 processors, which in LG G Flex 2 operate at 2 GHz, aka à But by the full GPU acceleration tech Adreno 430. All in all, they are 2 GB from memory RAM e 16 GB internal memory, in the version available in Spain. To compensate for LG put a card in the box Micro SD de 16 GB, but the device supports SD cards de up to 128 GB.

O LG G Flex 2, most of the time, responds well to commands. It is very fast and runs all the heaviest applications and games without stuttering. I tested games like Real Racing 3, Robocop, Dead Trigger 2 and Mortal Kombat X. In the last one I had some problems, the device even crashed and restarted a few times while starting the game, but in the other games everything went well.

But… at times it stutters even with nothing open and stops responding and is even slow to access the menu at completely random times, which is strange for a device of this size. I did a search on the internet and consulted some friends with other devices and found that other people and reviews mentioned this device problem. Not to mention the famous “Application X stopped responding” screen.

Review: LG G Flex 2, or curved and powerful smartphone
    That's not possible

Your processor operates below the limit to avoid overheating and I really didn't get my hands toasted by the device. He didn't get hot enough to bother him, but the LG exaggerated a little in its concern about overheating, to the point of not allowing me to increase the screen brightness at certain times, displaying an annoying message that did not allow me to increase the screen brightness.

But the worst happened when I was using Waze, with my private Terminator and the device got hot, so I got a warning that the device would be turned off and without further ado it just turned it off, leaving me blind in traffic.

    Apps

The device leaves the factory with the Android Lollipop 5.0.1 with LG's Optimus UI interface, which didn't make much difference compared to the LG G3 com Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Review: LG G Flex 2, or curved and powerful smartphone

The icons are the same, different from the LG G4 which brought an interface fully modeled with Material Design. Some applications such as messaging, voice recorder and QuickMemo+ it has skeumorphism elements like: notebook lines and a VU marker on the engraver while everything else follows the Material Design line. The only noticeable difference is in the multitasking of the Android Lollipop which is present.

Review: LG G Flex 2, or curved and powerful smartphone

Apart from the interface, which has not evolved, we have excellent apps and exclusive features from LG, such as Knock On, which allows you to turn on the screen with two taps, and Knock Code, which is a code that unlocks the device even when the screen is off and is simply addictive , you will try to use it on any cell phone you pick up.

In the notification bar you can configure your favorite shortcuts, screen brightness, ringtone volume and notifications and place a Qslide application bar, which are floating versions of some applications, which allow you to continue using the device while using a certain app.

Review: LG G Flex 2, or curved and powerful smartphone

The cell phone comes with some demo games that I didn't particularly like, in addition to being trial versions and taking up the little space that the device has, they are games with very simple graphics, which don't show the true firepower of the device.

    Camera (Photos and Videos)

Here's the highlight of the review: the camera! THE G Flex 2 it has a 13 megapixel camera, which takes images up to 4128 x 3096 pixels, a very fast laser autofocus, optical image stabilizer (OIS), a dual LED flash and 4K video (2160p@30fps). The front camera has 2.1 megapixels and shoots in FullHD (1080p@30fps).

the software of LG camera is so simple (for those who are used to a Lumia Camera), that you can only use the automatic mode, Dual, which is very interesting and takes a picture with both cameras (main and front) and Panorama, in addition to deactivating the Flash and change cameras, and that's it.

Clicking on settings you can add a grid (to use the rule of thirds) and activate the voice command to shoot, in English and accepts words like: Xis (Tchiis), Smile (Smáiel) and LG (El dji), and trust , Xis is the best option, don't go around talking about LG to take pictures that will call you crazy.

The camera also has timer e HDR and the one on the front camera has the Quick Selfie feature, with the front camera enabled, just open and close your hand in front of it. The timer is activated and she counts 3 seconds and takes her selfie.

Review: LG G Flex 2, or curved and powerful smartphone

In bright environments both cameras do very well for casual photos, but in low light they take very grainy photos with average quality. Look:

    Battery Life

It comes with a non-removable battery  3000 mAh, which has a medium autonomy and, in my opinion, is not enough for the device. As it is a top-of-the-line device and intended for the consumption of heavier videos and games, it has a battery that can leave you in your hand at times.

Compared to its predecessor it gained twice the resolution and lost 500mAh. With a profile of normal use with: WhatsApp, Facebook and reading emails, the battery lasted up to 12 hours. But if I step it up a little more, with browsing Waze for a few minutes or music on Spotify, the performance drops to 6 or 8 hours of use.

The positive side is that the charger that comes with it, Turbo charger, it can charge more than 50% capacity in just 40 minutes, which is a relief. In summary, it has an average autonomy, but it is not excellent as it should be.

    Price and availability

O LG G Flex 2 can be found from R$ 2.348,13 at Magazine Luiza in the version with 16GB of storage and color Titanium.

    Conclusion

O LG G Flex 2 It is a high-end smartphone, with an impeccable design and an incredible display. It is already part of the new crop of devices with the modern Snapdragon 810 and its 64-bit technology and despite being made of plastic, it does not appear to be a fragile device at any time.

It is super resistant to falls, impacts, as well as being flexible. The only critical points of the device are its inconsistent performance at times and its price, which matches that of the brand new LG G4.
