How to update smartphone to Android 12 Beta

The OTA (Over The Air) method is the simplest and is valid for all smartphones. The following procedure is basically the same for any major OS update:

    1. Enter the Android Beta program website, and click the Sign In button to sign up as a beta tester with your Google account. Those who signed up in the past will have to repeat the process to test Android 12.
    2. After enrollment, a list of devices that are eligible for the Beta program will appear, and the smartphones that are linked to your account that can receive the software.
    3. Click on the smartphone where you want to test Android 12, then click Participate.
    4. Accept the terms of use of the program.

Once you have registered your smartphone for the program, within a period of 24 hours, you will receive an update on the device with the beta of the operating system, as if it were any Android update. If it doesn't, on your smartphone, go to Settings > System > Advanced > System Update and check for updates until the software is available.

On the Android 12 Beta website you can check your device's brand tab and if this mobile is available for the trial version

    Google Pixel

As with the OTA method mentioned above, for a Pixel, first go to the Android 12 Beta website to register your smartphone. If you want to manually check, open the settings menu on your phone and go to System> System update. Touch Check updates to see if you can download the new software.

As well as the OTA method mentioned above, to test the Android 12 Beta on a device Google Pixel just enroll it in the Android Beta program for Pixel. After signing up, your device will receive frequent updates to the latest builds of Android12 until the final version is released.

Signing up is a simple and quick process, highly recommended for first-time users and developers. In most cases, it is not necessary to do a complete data reset when migrating to Android 12 Beta, but it is recommended to backup before enrolling the device.

What if I don't have a Pixel smartphone?

In the past, the installation process for each vendor was different. Most of them require you to install the update using a wired connection to your computer and most of the time you will need to reset your phone to its original configuration during the update process. Google's developer site has published a single site that includes direct links to instructions for each hardware partner participating in the beta program.

In addition to Google smartphones, the fourth version of Android Beta can now be tested by users of devices from various brands. Check if yours is one of them.

I tested it, now I want to go back to Android 11

If you decide that Android 12 Beta is still not ideal for your day-to-day use, know that your device can leave the Beta program. But beware that you will have to factory reset your phone to get back to Android 11. You should be able to use an old backup to restore your phone to Android 11 form, but it is entirely possible that you will lose some data during the transition.

To opt out of the beta, visit the beta site again, but this time click the Opt-Out button below your device. Wait a minute or two and check for a software update on your phone at Settings > System > Advanced > System Update > Check for Update. Install the update, which will reset your phone to factory defaults, and when it's done, you'll need to set it up again, starting with logging into your Google account.

That's why it's always important to remember that, despite this fourth version being more stable, it's still a Beta program for the operating system. That is, your device is still subject to bugs, so take the test at your own risk. The links above are for the devices sold in the Spanish market, but if you have another model, just check if your device is eligible on the website of the Android 12 Beta.

So, is your smartphone compatible with the new operating system? Did you take the test? Tell us! But if you didn't, check out everything about Android 12 here!
