Instagram says the social network is no longer a photo-sharing app

According to Instagram boss Adam Mosseri, Instagram is no longer a photo-sharing app. Recently, through the social networks Twitter and Instagram, Adam posted a video saying that the company is now focusing on entertainment in the video format after seeing the success of competitors like TikTok and YouTube.

Throughout the video, Adam describes what changes Instagram will make, as well as experiments such as recommending topics that users aren't following and improving the video system to make the full-screen experience more engaging.

Changes are coming to video on Instagram ????

At Instagram we’re always trying to build new features that help you get the most out of your experience. Right now we’re focused on four key areas: Creators, Video, Shopping and Messaging. pic.twitter.com/ezFp4hfDpf

    What will come around?

The message conveyed in the video was clear: the social network no longer thinks of being seen as a "square photo app", as Adam refers to the platform, but a general entertainment app that works through algorithms and videos. However, it is not yet known exactly when the company intends to make this change. Anyway, other news that the social network will make were recently announced: changing the way links are shared in stories and offering the possibility of creating subscriptions to stories (Exclusive Stories).

While Instagram already has some experience with videos like IGTV, Reels and Stories, Adam says the company intends to "embrace video more broadly." What will await us?
