Instagram starts notifying users about offensive captions

Several social networks are working on solutions to combat bullying. In October, Instagram started allowing users to hide comments from a person without having to block them. Now, the company has started to deliver another tool that seeks to reduce the amount of inappropriate posts.

This novelty, which will initially be available in "selected markets", consists of sending a notification to the user who tries to post an image or video containing an offensive caption. The alert, which will be sent before the content is published, is issued by a system that uses artificial intelligence, and is fed by a database that gathers words and expressions associated with bullying that have been reported by members in recent months.

This notification can easily be ignored, but Instagram hopes it will make users rethink the caption of the image or video they are going to post. If we stop to think about it, this measure is educational and aims to make people aware of their actions on the social network, making it very clear that certain approaches are not allowed, which can cause problems when violating the rules, such as a temporary or permanent ban.

Using artificial intelligence makes perfect sense, after all, Instagram is a gigantic social network and monitoring offensive posts with human moderators is impossible. Also, given that the algorithms for this feature are not yet accurate, notifying rather than banning publication is a great idea, as it prevents the social network from making mistakes.

As previously stated, this news will arrive first in "selected markets", but Instagram did not say which ones. Let's wait for more details.
