Recently some people received a message when they opened Instagram. The app's announcement is a notice talking about the new functionality of merging Messenger chat with Instagram DMs (direct messages). This new function will allow Facebook contacts to send you a message on Instagram, in addition to gaining some Messenger implementations such as swiping to the side to quote a sentence and reply, reacting with emojis to messages and, of course, having a different look to the chats section of the app.
For now, there is the option to enable the new Instagram merge functionality with Facebook. However, when enabling the new tool to be activated, only the icons of direct messages (DMs) change their appearance (to Messenger icon). According to what has already been reported, the new tool still does not work with the main purpose, even with the function activated, that is, it is just a test that is being done.
It's been a long time since Facebook even announced that it had intentions of merging Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook messages, but it would be in the long term according to the company. The platforms have billions of users and the company's desire would be to allow communication between them. However, if Facebook conducts a survey asking its users what they prefer, it is likely that the majority will respond by saying that they prefer separate chats, as there are people who do not want certain contacts on one platform to contact them on another. .
As per the information that has been made available, the voice and video calling features will be merged also in the future between Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp.
Maybe you've already noticed, but recently Facebook put the words "by Facebook" right below the logo that appears when opening apps.
