Microsoft backs off and will allow Windows 11 on old PCs! Although…

O Windows 11 tends to be the biggest update Microsoft has ever made to its core operating system, and so much anticipation has been generated around the new platform. But as not everything is rosy, a big chunk of optimism was thrown to the wind when the company announced that not all processors would support the software. Now, to lessen the crisis before the official launch, Microsoft has reversed its decision.

Will Windows 11 run on your PC? Check the minimum requirements

Windows 11 will run on PCs with older processors

Initially, Microsoft announced that the owner of a computer that did not have a motherboard compatible with the TPM 2.0, I wouldn't even be able to install Windows 11. However, last Friday (27), the company revealed that this component would no longer be mandatory.

TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) is a security component present in the latest motherboards and processors. It is the mechanism responsible for ensuring security verification protocols such as biometric authentication, encryptions or even memory drive partitions.

Citing the need for this component is nothing new for Microsoft, since since 2016 it has become necessary for using Windows. But having a card that does not have this technology did not prevent the operating system from being installed. Thus, the decision to continue providing the platform even for older computers will be a continuation of what has already been done by the company, after all, the absence of this component does not mean that a computer is necessarily obsolete.

    However, however, however...

Despite the change, Windows 11 will remain inaccessible to the public, especially those who do not usually install systems manually. That's because Microsoft also announced that anyone who doesn't have a motherboard that supports the TPM 2.0 engine, you will need to perform the installation manually with each new update with the ISO provided by the company.

The update performed automatically by the system itself manages to activate the necessary settings for the Windows overlay, while the installation by ISO files requires accessing settings directly in the BIOS of the devices, which can be more complicated. Those who have little or no familiarity with the procedure may give up using the new system, or even leading to the possibility of discarding the computer, which can directly impact the environment.

    Launch in crisis

This isn't the first decision Microsoft has reversed. Initially, the restriction was to AMD and Intel processors released before 2017, which made the company rethink and confirm that, instead of generalizing, only the chips 7th generation core and os AMD Zen1 will not be compatible.

Such sudden changes in Microsoft's positioning reflect a strategic crisis for the launch of Windows 11. The speech that the platform would be accessible to the general public, as was Windows 10, performing the upgrade for free, has been increasingly ignored. The idea was that more and more computers would receive the update, something similar to what already happens among MacOS users.

Anyway, the final version of Windows 11 is not yet available to the public, only the Beta version for Microsoft Insider program members. To install it, just go to your computer's settings and go to the developer tab.
