Microsoft opens its Windows 11 app store to third-party apps

Microsoft opens its Windows 11 app store to third-party apps

Microsoft has announced the opening of its app store on Windows for the integration of third-party stores. With this, the Microsoft Store will gain applications from Amazon and Epic Games in the coming months. Initially the novelty will arrive for Windows 11, but the company intends to review its app store for Windows 10 as well.

The opening of the Microsoft Store has been expected since the announcement of Microsoft's new operating system, Windows 11. Through Microsoft's partnership with Amazon, it will now be possible to search for Android apps from the Amazon Appstore directly from the Microsoft Store. An update with this integration will be available shortly for Windows Insider Program participants.

Steam is not yet on the partnership list

Even if Steam is not on the list of partnerships with the Microsoft Store, it is very likely that it will in the near future be integrated into the Microsoft app store. Meanwhile, Epic Games has already started integrating its gaming platform with the Windows app store.

Microsoft Store General Manager Giorgio Sardo says:

"Just like any other app, third-party store apps will have a product detail page - which can be found via search or browsing - so users can easily find and install it with the same confidence as any other app in the Microsoft Store on Windows. Today, we're sharing that Amazon and Epic Games will be bringing their showcase apps to the Microsoft Store in the coming months, and we look forward to welcoming other stores in the future as well."

Several apps have already been added to the Microsoft Store

Due to new Microsoft Store policies, several popular apps have already been added to the Microsoft app store such as Discord, Zoom, VLC, TeamViewer and Visual Studio Code. There are also PWAs (Progressive Web Apps) from Reddit, Wikipedia, TikTok, Tumblr and more.
