Furthermore, Facebook acquired the company and has been doing extensive work, from introducing the parent company Logo to adding other functions - such as Dark Mode.
But today's article is not about the amount of Social Network users or how Mark Zuckerberg is doing with his companies. Let's see what are the correct sizes for you to post an image on Instagram, whether vertically, horizontally or in Square.
So, what is the ideal size for photos posted on Instagram? Initially, the size used to be 612px by 612px, but it changed to 640px by 640px and later changed to 1080px by 1080px. In 2015, Instagram started to adopt both vertical and horizontal images. So let's see the best image sizes.

Instagram's new sizes
Even though the vast majority of people don't care about the size of images on Instagram, it exists. Currently, the social network has three image orientations:
- Square (Square)
- Landscape (Horizontal)
- Portrait (Vertical or Horizontal)
The three orientations mentioned above allow for greater versatility in creating all images. The Size and Aspect Ratio changes slightly depending on where you post (timeline, Stories or IGTV) and also the content posted (video or photo).
Photos (Timeline and Stories)
So we'll start talking about the photos on Instagram, here we find 3 different possibilities of image size and aspect, let's go to the first one.
Square (1:1 Aspect)
The square image is displayed at maximum 1080 X 1080 pixels, but apparently on mobile devices, the largest size we can see is 600 x 600. Unfortunately Stories don't support this type of look, so there will always be borders at the top and bottom.

Landscape (Aspect 1.19:1 to 16:9)
Here in landscape mode we already have slightly different resolutions, the maximum number of pixels (in width) is still 1080, but the maximum height is 608, so we have the resolution of 1080 608 pixels x, this aspect also applies to Stories.

Portrait Photo (Aspect 4:5)
The vertical or (or portrait) images are those with the highest available resolution, reaching X 1080 1350 pixels and thus the largest that can be displayed on your screen.

Vertical (Aspecto 9:16) - Stories
Here we have an exclusive photo size for Stories, the 9:16 aspect is exclusive to this type of post and has a maximum resolution of 1080 1920 pixels x.
Videos (Timeline, Stories and Live)
Instagram videos have some resolutions shared with photos, while others are exclusive to their use, as is the case with 9:16 photos in Stories.
Landscape (Aspect 1.19:1 to 16:9)
When we post a video in the timeline and in landscape mode (in Landscape), the maximum resolution is 1080 608 pixels x, the same used for photos in this frame.
Portrait Photo (Aspect 4:5)
The only other aspect of video that can be posted uses the 4:5 aspect and resolution X 1080 1350 pixels, being the largest video (in resolution) you can post on your timeline, as well as photos.
Vertical (Aspecto 9:16) - Stories e Live
And just like photos, videos in 9:16 aspect can also be posted in Stories and it's also the single resolution of choice for Lives. All are in the exact same resolution as photos: 1080 1920 pixels x.
