Paint has been updated in Windows 11 with a new design and header that support Mica, similar to what we see in Clock or Email & Calendar. Among the changes implemented in the new version of the application for Windows 11 is the new menu that is similar to that of Microsoft Word, with basic functionality such as, for example, undo and redo.
At one point, Microsoft even considered discontinuing Paint. But considering the changes to the app, the Windows developer seems to have given up on the idea. Previously, the idea was to replace the program with Paint 3D, where the plan was to build and visualize 3D content for desktop and Windows Mixed Reality users.

What's New in Windows 11's Paint?
With the new menu of Paint, similar to that of Microsoft Word, as said at the beginning, it is possible to customize the functions, adding more options. There is also the "file" tab to create new images, modify the ones already saved or print the work done using connected printers.
In the new Paint Microsoft is integrating WinUI components, which is based on the Win32 framework. However, this new app update is only available to the developer channel (Insider). It can be seen through the image above and below that the new look of Paint matches the more modern look of Windows 11.

In addition to the changes noted above, Microsoft has implemented the following changes:
- Microsoft fixed an issue where text boxes moved unexpectedly when you wrote on images using IME>
- Microsoft fixed an issue where these modern dialogs did not respect the regional language in countries like the Netherlands.
- Microsoft has enabled a new feature that allows you to shift-click a color swatch to use that color as your secondary color.
- Microsoft has improved support for screen readers.
Launch and availability
The new Paint will be released to all users (outside the Windows Insider Program) in early 2022. Unfortunately, there is no exact date yet, but stay tuned for more news!
