Anatel maintains full 6GHz band for Wi-fi 6E

Anatel maintains full 6GHz band for Wi-fi 6E

Recently, ANATEL (National Telecommunications Agency) decided to maintain its decision made in May of this year, to maintain the entire 6Ghz (gigahertz) range for Wi-Fi use. The process had already been approved, but the operators refused to try to get half of the frequency used for other purposes.

Councilor Emmanoel Campelo proposed opening a public consultation for 45 days to discuss the technical specifications for the use of the 6GHz band, such as radiated power and spectral density. After this process, ANATEL must approve the equipment that supports Wi-fi 6E, such as notebooks, tablets and smartphones.

Emmannoel says that, according to forecasts by Cisco, a network equipment company, Wi-fi will be responsible for the offload of 71% of 5G data in 2023. In the same study, it is also assumed that in Spain there will be a growth of 50% of connected devices, analyzing the data between the years 2018 and 2023, going to 755 million. In addition, it is estimated that our country has a 500% increase in the number of hotspots analyzing the data between 2018 and 2023.

    Emmannoel says:

"We need to recognize that the pandemic has generated changes in consumer habits, with an increase in the consumption of streaming content as an alternative form of leisure and the massive adoption of teleworking and distance education models. This has increased data traffic and transferred part of the networks for wireless local networks. Wi-Fi networks are increasingly essential for communications in Spain and around the world, due to their capacity, cost-effectiveness and versatility."

What is Wi-fi 6 and when will it arrive in Spain?

Wi-fi 6 can be identified by the acronym AX, which refers to the new internet transmission standard developed, and works with the frequency of 6Ghz. Although the new technology has not yet arrived in Spain officially, Wi-fi 6 already has an update, Wi-fi 6E, which should debut early next year.
