    Windows 10 version 2004 moves to 21H1 with automatic update

    The Windows 10 update version 21H1 arrived two months ago via Windows Update on the Patch Tuesday of May 2021. On this occasion, there was the option to install or not the new version of the operating system (OS), however, now, this week, It has been reported by users that some computers are automatically upgrading to Windows 10 21H1.

    It has been confirmed by Microsoft that this is the time for automatic updates for users still using Windows 10 version 2004. This version of Windows 10 was released in May 2020 and will be out of support in December 2021. The last update that the 2004 version will win will be in December of this year.



    What is happening is standard procedure that Microsoft uses when Windows computers have an OS version that will soon end support. That is, even if the user does not check for updates or click the update and install button, the update to the new version of Windows will be performed. Microsoft calls this a "forced update".

    When will the forced upgrade of Windows 10 to version 21H1 happen?

    Starting this week, Microsoft started the "forced upgrade" process for computers running Windows 2004 version 10. All machines running this version will automatically upgrade to Windows 10 21H1 (May 2021 Update). Microsoft says:

    "We are now starting a new phase in our rollout. Using the machine learning training we have done so far, we are increasing the number of devices selected for automatic upgrade to Windows 10, version 21H1, which are approaching end of service. We will continue to train our machine learning at all stages to provide a smooth upgrade experience."
