Windows 7 support will end in less than a year

That's right, free Windows 7 support will end on January 14, 2020. But what does that mean? It means that the system will no longer receive free security updates. With this, computers that have Windows 7 will be vulnerable to attacks and viruses.

Microsoft's recommendation is that all Windows 7 users migrate to Windows 10. However, those who have not yet chosen to do so will be able to pay for the update until 2023.

Microsoft said "once support ends, your PC will be more vulnerable to security risks… you will stop receiving security and feature updates". In this way, the company explains that even after 2020, Windows 7 can be used, however, it emphasizes that it will be taking risks in relation to security.

In order for consumers to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10, a full license must be purchased. The user can still opt for the Home version, which costs R$ 559,99, or for the Pro version, which costs R$ 809,99. Also, Microsoft suggests "To take advantage of the latest hardware features, we recommend that you purchase a new PC".

    Windows 7 - Paid Upgrades until 2023

After the deadline, companies will need to pay for updates, that is, after January 14, 2020, those who want to continue with Windows 7 on their PC, receiving the necessary updates, will need to pay.

Extended Security Updates (ESU) will be available to Windows 7 Professional and Enterprise Customers on Volume Licensing between the year 2020 through 2023.

However, in principle there will be an increase in the amount to be charged for updates each year and will also depend on the number of devices on which the customer will need to update.

The same security patches will be available for companies that subscribe to Windows Enterprise E3, with the Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) service that provides virtual machines running Windows 7 and hosted in the Azure cloud.

Windows 7 support will end in less than a year

After 2020, system updates will have to be paid for.

However, Microsoft 365 Business customers will be able to upgrade their Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 Pro licensed devices at no additional cost.

It is worth mentioning that companies that make use of the Embedded versions of Windows 7 will have official support until 2021. These in turn are widely used in car entertainment systems, in PoS terminals, in this case, in junk boxes, and also in industry.

With this, Microsoft begins to encourage consumers to migrate to Windows 10 as it prepares to end support for Windows 7.
