Full Review: Motorola XOOM WiFi and 3G (vs. iPad 2):

After a good period of testing, we can finally make our thoughts on the new tablet with Android for sale in Spanish territory: the Motorola Xoom. To make your life even easier, at the end of the review we will present comparisons with its main competitor, the iPad 2 da Apple. See below:

    Design and finish:

With aluminum body and large screen with Gorilla Glass (ultra resistant), o Xoom It has a clean and modern design. To say that he is more or less handsome than the iPad it's just a matter of preference. After all, the two are very similar. However, it loses for the button to turn it on, which is on the back of the device, and for being a little fatter than the new version of the tablet from Apple.

    Fabric:

The screen is a large display of 10.1 inches, multi-touch, TFT with 16 million colors (1280×800), slightly larger than the iPad. The touch response is excellent and the colors are very vivid. However, two problems we noticed: the display gets dirty very quickly with grease from your fingers and easily reflects any light around it (which can be annoying in very bright environments).

    Hardware:

The hardware is certainly what draws the most attention in the Xoom. It has a processor Tegra 2, Dual Core com 1Ghz of speed; 1GB of RAM memory and  32GB internal memory (expandable to up to 64GB with a memory card).

    System Speed:

The system screens Android 3.0 Honeycom flow quickly, even when you decide to replace traditional wallpaper with “Live Wallpapers”. Accessing apps is also very fast. We only noticed a few “bugs” and “glitches”, which signal that the version Honeycomb do Android still needs adjustments. both the Xoom and the iPad 2 have dual-core processors.

browse the internet It is very nice. However, some sites are not so easily accessed or adapted to their use, as is already the case in iPad. Many sites do not recognize the Xoom as a tablet, and end up presenting the (poorer) mobile version of their content. This is also a bug that should be fixed soon.

browse books and magazines is also very good. Touch sensitivity is essential in these cases, and the Xoom have good answer. However, most magazines are still more adapted to the screen of iPads than tablets. Android. This is a minor annoyance that should also be resolved soon.

Important: different from iPadthe Xoom already has native support for Flash da Adobe.

    Cameras and Video Conferencing:

The Xoom's main camera has 5.0 MP, with flash, for recording photos and HD videos (720p). In our tests, we came to the conclusion that the quality is satisfactory (it is not meant to replace your traditional camera).

As regards video conference, a very positive point: the Xoom makes quality video calls via Wifi or 3G networks to any smartphone or computer through applications such as GoogleTalk or Tango (provided these devices also support video conferencing).

Remembering: the Face time da Apple is restricted to users of its products, under connection Wi-Fi.

    Applications:

Here we have the Achilles heel of the Xoom (and any other tablet Android): the lack of applications adapted to it. the defenders of Android claim that this is a temporary glitch, which tends to resolve itself with the arrival of more tablets Android and with greater adherence to the system by consumers. However, it is a fact: the Xoom lags far behind the tablets of Apple in this question.

    Accessories:

Another point yet to be resolved. THE Xoom It has excellent accessories: protective covers, multimedia dock (for TV connection), and it connects to bluetooth keyboards and mice. However, at least in São Paulo, we did not find any of these for sale. At least for the moment, you will pass by those accessory stores to iPhones e iPads, very common in Spanish malls, and you will see that your Xoom still loses out in this regard.

    Battery:

Here is a very positive point, especially if you compare your Xoom to your old notebook. It has many more hours of autonomy: 10 hours of use e 14 dias em Stand-by, according to company specifications.

In our tests, we saw that these 14 days are somewhat utopian. However, you can leave your Xoom on stand-by for 4 or 5 days, it will still have battery when you need it. Well, just for the 10 hours of direct use, the Xoom It makes any notebook feel ashamed, doesn't it?

    3G Internet, Wi-Fi and connections:

O Xoom spanish connects to networks 3G e WiFi in its most complete version, and only to the WiFi in the simplest version. Both models have connectivity BluetoothGPS e HDMI (no adapter needed, Apple!). In the future, if the 3.1 update reaches the Spanish model, it will be possible to connect your Xoom to external HDs, Joysticks, keyboards and USB mice. Let's cheer!!

    Updates:

DANGER: unlike the American model, offered by Verizon (which has already released the 3.1 version for your users), the Xoom Spanish will depend on the goodwill of the Motorola to be updated. In other words: be prepared to wait, and a lot! It's a shame, but Motorola hasn't signaled any improvement in this regard.

    Price and availability:

O Xoom can be found in stores Vivo, Fnac, Americanas, Submarine, among others. In the VIVO store, the model 3G+Wifi costs R$ 1.799,00 (look here). In comparison, the 3GB 64G+Wi-Fi version of the iPad 2 costs R$ 2.599,00.
