The race for the 5G network has already begun. This week, South Korea's biggest carriers activated the first 5G networks for cell phones. So, to become the first in the world to offer the technology, the Koreans anticipated the launch. The idea is to provide speeds up to 20 times faster than 4G and low latency for artificial intelligence and virtual reality applications.
The debut was scheduled to take place this Friday (05), along with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, but the Koreans wanted to stay ahead of the Americans. In the United States, 5G is offered for domestic connections, and the mobile version should arrive only next week through Verizon.
In South Korea, mobile 5G was activated simultaneously at 23:3 pm (local time) on April 2019, 5 by operators SKT, KT and LG U+, the largest in the country. So far, only one device is compatible with Korean 50G. The LG VXNUMX ThinQ should only arrive at the end of the month.
By the end of the year, more than 3 million South Koreans are expected to migrate to the new technology. Operators must make an investment of US$ 2,6 billion.
